Festivals, Markets and Fairs

Herzogenaurach citizens know how to celebrate. For example, on Carnival Tuesday, the market square is crowded with masqueraded revelers; during the Old Town Festival, the streets of the town center are bustling as well; for the Summer Festival, everybody comes to the Weihersbach area; and also for the Martini Festival, taking place in cold November, children and grandparents, singles and families meet downtown.

Additionally, two fairs have been established during the last few years: The town fair Construct-Live-Renovate, and the bicycle fair Mount a Bike - The Bicycle Fair. Here is a list of Herzogenaurach festivals and events throughout the year:

Weekly Farmers' Market

The Farmer's Market takes place in the main street (Hauptstraße) every Wednesday and Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Fresh local and regional products are on offer.

Carnival (Fasching) revelry on Shrove Tuesday on market square.

With a parade through the town, the Spielmannszug (marching band) of the volunteer fire department Herzogenaurach invites all citizens to join the bustle on market square.

Flea market

The flea market for families and children is organized two times a year by the Generations.Center and by now is known also beyond the boundaries of the town. Beneath the old trees at the Weihersbach area, flea market fans can find precious treasures for little money.

Old Town Festival

The weekend after Corpus Christi is a fixed date on the calender of the town of Herzogenaurach. The festival of Herzogenaurach's clubs and societies has been drawing in the crowds since 1976.

Summer Festival (Sommerkirchweih)

The Herzogenaurach Summer Festival takes place in the first half of July each year and for 10 days it is the scene of a merry social gathering.

Medieval Festival

On the last weekend in July, knights and minstrels, craftsmen and artists arouse a medieval atmosphere within the historic scenery of the Old Town of Herzogenaurach.

Martinmas Fair (Martinikirchweih)

The Martinmas Fair in November has been held here since 1764, and 250 years of frosty autumn weather has done nothing to harm the good atmosphere at this fair.

Amateur artists' market

Under the motto "come in, look around and marvel", the Generations.Center organizes an annual Amateur Artists' Market with treasures of creativity and artistic specialty, taking place on the Sunday prior to the First Advent Sunday. 

This Amateur Artists' Market is exclusively meant for non-commercial vendors offering their handmade products.

Living Advent Calendar, December

The Advent calender door on the big stage at the historic market square opens daily at 5.00 p.m. from December 1 - 23, as well as on December 24 at 12.00 noon.

For about 15 to 20 minutes, a group of artists or children gives a thoughtful, poetic, funny or musical performance.

Christmas Market

The traditional Christmas Market opens on Thursday at 5 p.m. with an After Work Glühwein and creates Christmas spirit on the historic market square. On Friday at 6 p.m. Christ Child and its angels open up the Christmas Market with the prologue. Every day there is a diversified program at the market square.

On Saturday and Sunday there is a special program for children at the childrens' Christmas market in the palace yard with Christmas cookies and a sled slide.
