DISCOVERY AREA PROGRAM

Feel free to just stroll through the hin&herzo Discovery Area. Take a look at what the three festival days can offer you.

„SPECTHRON“ – AN INTERACTIVE SOUND AND LIGHT INSTALLATION

When day becomes night, we take new perspectives. And also: Light in the darkness creates new perspectives of familiar things. Andreas Hauslaib and Jan Fiess create an interactive sound and light installation called “specthron”. Life has a broad, colorful and diverse spectrum with many different perspectives. Are we able to control it? To what extent can we influence our environment? Are coincidences crucial? These are some of the questions the two artists deal with.

Starting at the Fehn Tower in Hauptstraße, there is an alley lined by 60 light steles. With intuitive hand movements, the visitors become part of light and sound sequences in a playful manner, discover creative opportunities and learn how to influence the installation. The observer becomes an active part of the installation. Interactivity and coincidence create a perpetuum mobile of motion, light colors, sounds and structures. The sum of opportunities creates new perspectives.

The light works and projections of the multifaceted light artist from Ulm, Andreas Hauslaib, can be seen throughout Germany: With his projection Mappings he has already been invited to the TV tower in Berlin, the state opera Unter den Linden and the Schlosslichtspiele (light show) in Karlsruhe. He put up a light and projection installation at the Walhalla near Regensburg as well as the Neckarhafen in Stuttgart. System developer and “creative technologist” Jan Fiess creates multimedia installations. Together, the two artists have created the light steles (“latlights”) for “specthron”. “specthron” is sponsored by Herzo Werke.

EXHIBITIONS

“#NEW_MATRIX?”

Exhibition of the 2022 hin&herzo Project Award Winner Stefanie Manhillen in the barn of the former Lang bakery in Hauptstraße 34. The artist enables her guests to change perspectives profoundly but also with humor. Visitors may modify elements of the exhibition. The exhibition opening is on Friday, September 23, with the performance PERPLEXIVEN. The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of the Discovery Area. Learn more about the hin&herzo Project Award.

“THE PERSPECTIVE IS CRUCIAL”

“Can we trust our eyes?”, “Do we all see the same?” and “Sometimes it’s just an illusion!” are the titles of the collages of the site fence exhibition in the hin&herzo Discovery Area. The French word “perspective” means “the art of seeing”. When visiting the exhibition, you definitely need to find your personal point of view - you will be astonished! For a couple of Cents you may take home your own “surprise illusion” from the “PERSPEKTIVOMAT”.

“PERSPECTIVE IS LIFE”

For Lana Karim and Shaho Penjwen, "Perspective is Life” has a very special meaning. The artist couple and their family had to leave their home in the town of Sulaimaniya in the Kurdish North of Iraq in 2015 due to war. With her abstract pictures, Lana Karim wants to bring to life her dreams with her energy, enthusiasm, imagination and a paintbrush in her hand. Shaho Penjwen is rather oriented towards realism: He wants his current pictures to be seen as a restart of his imagination and his feelings after having reached new freedom.

Opening hours during hin&herzo:
Saturday, September 24, and Sunday, September 25, 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm (KunstRaum // Langenzenner Str. 1)

“BIRD’S-EYE PERSPECTIVE”

Impressive photographies from the town archive: Herzogenaurach from above! The photos illustrate the development from a small rural country town to a prospering city with housing areas and industrial buildings. Taking a look at these roof landscapes will cause nostalgic feelings to rise. Many buildings are no longer part of the townscape or have been changed fundamentally. Where there are densely built-up housing or industrial areas today, the old pictures show fields and meadows.

Special opening hours during hin&herzo
Friday, September 23, 6.00 pm - 8.00 pm
Saturday, September 24, and Sunday, September 25, 2.00 pm - 8.00 pm

“PERSPECTIVES... PHOTOGRAPHIC VIEWS AND ANGLES”

Perspective has always been a stylistic device in arts and can change the message of a picture. Eight members of the Photo Club Herzogenaurach play with perspectives in their approx. 25 exhibited works. With different experiments they have created atmospheres and new angles of view so that the observer is sometimes even mislead. Also, perspective in the sense of future prospect can be a photo subject itself. The exhibition can be visited at the pop-up photo gallery at the former Reformhaus Dorweiler, Hauptstraße 20.

Special opening hours during hin&herzo
Friday, September 23, 6.00 pm - 10.00 pm
Saturday, September 24, 2.00 pm - 10.00 pm
Saturday, September 25, 11.00 am - 8.00 pm

“MOTHERHOOD”

“I have never wanted to give birth to a child. Yet, I think it is nice to be a mother. Adoption is therefore an option for me.” Black-and-white photographies of different women in combination with their own quotes demonstrate the diversity of possible perspectives on motherhood (or non-motherhood). The question of motherhood is much more than a simple “Yes or no?” question. The artistic works of the photographer Caroline Brünen from Berlin have documentary character and deal with questions about identity, marginalization and representation. She often deals with common clichés, trying to dismantle them.
