Half-timbered in Herzogenaurach

Altes Rathaus

The Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) is located in the heart of our town and closes off the market square on the south side. It was the visible symbol of urban self-government and also the place of judgment. The bakers and butchers had their stalls in the vaults of the ground floor. The half-timbered building was erected in 1407 and redesigned in Baroque style in 1781. In the years 1939 to 1941 it got its current appearance. Today the building houses the HerzoBar restaurant. .

 

 

Beyschlag'sche Apotheke

In 1831, Carl Leopold Beyschlag opened the first pharmacy in Herzogenaurach. From 1850 he also ran the town's first post office in the property, to which a telegraph station was added in 1870 and the telephone exchange in 1906. A classic pharmacy was located in the building until the summer of 2021. Now there is a health food located in the building.

 

 

 

Pfründnerspital

The late medieval half-timbered building was donated in 1508 by the Niederndorf dyer and cloth merchant Cuntz Reyther as accommodation for old and infirm citizens of the town. After renovation in accordance with the requirements of a historical monument, the hospital now houses the town museum. The modern permanent exhibition is regularly supplemented by varied special exhibitions.

 

 

 

Seelhaus

The people of Herzogenaurach owe the creation of the Seelhaus, which has served as a hostel for pilgrims and accommodation for the town poor since the Middle Ages, to a charitable foundation. It was built in its current form in 1458. The historic semi-detached house has stood empty for the past few years. In 2017, the city of Herzogenaurach decided to have the building, which had been renovated from the outside, also renovated inside. The semi-detached house has been rented since 2021. Ältestes Bürgerhaus

The oldest town house in the city was dendrochronologically dated to the years of construction 1447/48. The eaves-side house with the projecting upper floor shows ancient half-timbering and has a plank room. In 1988 it was renovated in accordance with monument regulations and serves as the domicile of the local history association. The building can be visited as part of city tours.

 

 

 

 

 

Gasthaus "Zum Walfisch"

The former traditional inn "Zum Walfisch" is one of the most stately peasant houses in the city. Parts of the half-timbered building date back to the 14th century. The east gable shows the original structure with intersecting, leafed head and foot braces. The elevator bay window and the gateway to the farm buildings behind are characteristic.

 

 

 

Hubmannshaus

In the immediate vicinity of the new town hall building is the former restaurant of the traditional Hubmann brewery. The hipped roof house with the half-timbered upper floor was built in the 18th century. The brewery with the malt house that used to be next door was demolished in 1979.

 

 

 

Brauerei Polster

The restaurant of the former traditional brewery Zimmerer, later Polster, on the south side of the main street, is one of the most attractive half-timbered buildings in Herzogenaurach.

 

 

 

 

Untere Badstube

In the Middle Ages, Herzogenaurach had two public bathhouses: the upper baths room by the tower tower (burned down in 1903) and the lower baths room, which was first mentioned in 1416. 1456 bought. The barber Hans Pader von Neustadt built the building. Today the Herzogenaurach Adult Education Center is housed here.
